Ajmer is Surrounded by the Aravali hills and located in the heart of Rajasthan. It is the prime place of sufi culture and hindu religion. The city was founded in early 7th century by Ajai pal Chauhan and named Ajaimeru " the invincible hill". The Chauhans dominated Ajmer for many years and lastly in 12th century, Prithvi Raj Chauhan, the last representitive of the great Chauhan rulers was killed in battle with Mohammad Ghori.

Ajmer was passed under the Delhi Sultanate, The Rajputs, The Mughals, The Mrathas and The British, all involved in the some point in history.

Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti

This is the most important Muslim shrine in the Indian subcontinent amd next only to Macca and Medina. During the "Urs" celebrations, the devotees cooke food in two enormous degs.One of them is nearly 10 feet in diameter.The celebration ended up with the "looting the degs". After emptying the attendants jump inside the steaming hot interiors to scrape out the dregs.

 
Adhi din ka Jhonpra

In 1193 AD, Mohammed Ghauri conquered Ajmer and converted this old sanakrit college building into a mosque in just two-and-a-half days(adhi din).Now it is a great example of Indo-Muslim architechtural style.

 
Taragarh Fort

This is the another major tourist attraction which gives an excellent view of the Ajmer city. The fort was the site of the military activity during the Mughal period, later used as a sanatorium by the British time in India.

 
The Museum

It was the royal residence of Akbar,the great Mughal emperor.This museum houses is rich with Mughal and Rajput armour,paintings and sculptures.

 
Mayo College

It is one of the India’s best public schools,which is now converted to the Circuit House. The lake and the cenotaph and the shrine of the Hindu reformer Swami Dayanand Saraswati, founder of the Arya Samaj movement in India.
