Delhi Crafts Museum

The Delhi Crafts Museum at Pragati Maidan displays India's rich tradition of handicrafts which is selectively collected from all over the country. The Authentically constructed mud huts are beautifully decorated with folk art and exhibits like woodcarvings, paintings, paper-mache, embroidery etc. Tourists can buy the objects, ornaments, rugs, shawls and books from the craftsmen as well as from the museum.

Dolls Museum

The Delhi Dolls Museum is also known as Shankar’s International Dolls Museum. It has the largest collections of costume dolls in the world. Today the museum houses over 6,500 dolls from 85 countries and different states of India. There are some special displays on themes like Man on the Moon, Gandhiji’s Dandi March, A Forest Scene, A Kathakali Stage, etc. Other interesting exhibits are a 250-year-old doll from Switzerland, Maypole dance (Hungary), Flamenco dancers from Spain, the Kabuki dancer of Japan, a scene from the Ramayana (Thailand), Bridal pairs (Indonesia), the Kandy Perahera Festival (Sri Lanka), Mexican aborigines, Australian Maoris, characters from a ballet (South Korea), dolls in picturesque folk costumes from Bulgaria and the dancing dolls of Tamil Nadu etc.


Gandhi Museum

This museum contains all the personal relics, manuscripts, books, journals ,documents, photographic and audio-visual material of Mahatma Gandhi.


Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum

The Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum is located at 1 Safdarjung Road where the only lady prime minister of India Mrs Indira Gandhi used to lived. The house contains a collection of photographs which shows her life from her childhood to her days as prime minister. Her library and living room is beeing maintained just as she kept them. A number of rooms are dedicated to her son Rajiv Gandhi who was also the prime minister of India and assassinated in May 1991. In the garden there is a path where she was assassinated on October 31, 1984 by her own Sikh bodyguards.


National Museum of Natural History

The National Museum of Natural History has various exhibit galleries like Bio-Science Computer Room, an Activity Room and a Mobile Museum, which are used for promoting environmental awareness among different target groups. It organises the educational activities for the benefit of school children and teachers within the meseum permises to Know the Environment, nature painting and animal and plant modelling etc.

Nehru Memorial Museum & Library

The Nehru Memorial Museum and Library portrays the life and times of Jawaharlal Nehru against the backdrop of Indian freedom movement. The library dispalyes the printed materials, books, periodicals, newspapers and photographs with special focus on the history of modern India. These are the primary source for historical research and education.


National Rail Museum

The Rail Transport Museum consist all the information on the history of railways. There are models of train engines and coaches like the first train in India which made its journey from Mumbai to Thane in 1853, the Viceregal Dining Car (1889), the Prince of Wales Saloon (1875), Maharaja of Mysore's Saloon (1899), Maharaja of Baroda's Saloon (1886) and the most beautifull Fairy Queen, built in 1855.
